Central Logistics is an initiative that redirects all packages inbound to the Twin Cities campuses to one location, where they can then be consolidated and distributed efficiently by University staff. The advantages of Central Logistics are:
- Less traffic and parking congestion
- Improved safety with less delivery traffic moving about the campus
- Improved service with trained, knowledgeable staff
- Improved security in University spaces by limiting delivery staff to University employees
U Market Services will be working on implementing Central Logistics in F’14. This will mean working with carriers such as UPS and FedEx to deliver all packages to the U Market Services main warehouse. U Market Services will put a structure in place that ensures that all packages get delivered efficiently and accurately for the last mile into campus. The advantages of Central Logistics significantly outweigh any delay that may be introduced in the process. U Market Services will focus on minimizing any delays, and will communicate these and other important issues as the service is rolled out in FY14.
